OHRA Contents Insurance

OHRA Home Contents Insurance

As part of Nationale-Nederlanden, OHRA is a reliable and well-known insurer in the Netherlands. You can take out many insurance policies with OHRA, such as health or travel insurance. You can also take out home contents insurance, which insures all your items in your room or home. On this page, you can learn about the coverage and costs of OHRA home contents insurance.

Premium OHRA Home Contents Insurance

When you take out home contents insurance, the premium will be completely tailored to your living situation. The insurer will consider various factors, including the year your home was built, the type of home, and the roof covering. You will also need to provide your postcode and indicate whether you have installed burglary prevention measures. You need to calculate exactly how much your monthly premium will be yourself. However, in the table below, you will find the starting prices of both the home contents insurance and the additional options for a 20-year-old student in Utrecht.

Type of Insurance Premium
Home contents insurance From €8.82 per month
All-risk home contents insurance From €19.41 per month
Additional outside the home From €8.07 extra per month
Additional glass cover From €3.03 extra per month

Coverage OHRA Home Contents Insurance

OHRA home contents insurance offers extensive coverage that fully covers your home contents for damage caused by, for example, burglary, fire, or water damage. The contents are all movable items. Items in your garden, such as chairs, tools, and parasols, are also covered.

For certain items, such as electronics and expensive jewellery, there is a maximum amount that can be paid out after damage. You can choose to voluntarily increase the insured value of these items, which will result in a higher monthly premium. The most important coverages are:

Type of Contents Insured Amount
Contents Fully insured
Audiovisual equipment Max €15,000
Jewellery Max €6,000
Instruments Max €15,000
Art and antiques Max €15,000
Special collections Max €15,000

Additional Options OHRA Home Contents Insurance

With OHRA, you can expand your home contents insurance in three ways. These options are:

Type of Insurance Coverage Details
Glass coverage Damage to all windows, glass doors, and skylights of your home is covered through the additional glass insurance module.
Outside the Home You can take out the additional ‘Outside the Home’ module to insure your valuables while on the go. You are then insured for damage to photo and film equipment, computers, mobile devices, and, for example, your glasses.
All-risk coverage All-risk coverage also protects your home contents against damage that you accidentally cause to your belongings.

New-for-Old Value Payment

In most cases, when you make a claim for damage or theft, you will receive compensation based on the new-for-old value. However, this does not apply in the following situations:

  • When the damaged or stolen items were worth only 40% or less of the new value;
  • When it concerns rented items that you temporarily had in your possession.

An expert will determine the payment amount for valuable items such as collections, antiques, and art.

Deductible

When you report damage to the insurer, you will first need to pay the deductible before you receive compensation. With OHRA, you can choose the amount of your deductible. You can select a deductible amount of €0, €250, or €500. However, there is an important exception: if you live in a large or medium-sized city, a mandatory deductible of €150 applies for damage claims. For storm damage, a mandatory deductible of €225 applies. If you opt for the additional ‘Outside the Home’ module, a deductible of €50 applies.

What Is Not Insured?

Even though the home contents insurance has broad coverage, not all damage cases are covered. This mainly concerns extreme causes such as:

  • Nuclear reactions;
  • Earthquakes, floods, and volcanic eruptions;
  • War and terrorism;
  • Rain or precipitation entering through open windows or doors;
  • Faults in construction or building defects;
  • Intentional damage and illegal activities.
